CNIs and the CKA Exam

- One minute read - 185 wordsIf you are preparing for the CKA exam, one of the most common questions is which CNI plugin to use and whether you need to memorize deployment commands. The short answer: any CNI plugin described in the official Kubernetes documentation is acceptable, and the exam will supply all necessary CNI deployment commands for you.
The Kubernetes documentation intentionally avoids vendor-specific instructions to remain neutral. This means the docs point you to third-party sites or GitHub repositories for actual deployment steps, but those external resources cannot be accessed during the exam.
Unless specifically directed by the exam environment, you may use any of the solutions described in the official references to deploy a network addon:
- https://kubernetes.io/docs/concepts/cluster-administration/networking/#how-to-implement-the-kubernetes-networking-model
In practice, this means you should focus your study time on understanding the Kubernetes networking model, pod and service networking concepts, and how to troubleshoot connectivity issues rather than memorizing a specific CNI install command. The exam environment will provide the exact commands you need.
In the official exam, all essential CNI deployment details will be provided. You do not need to recall vendor-specific installation steps from memory.
